When UC Santa Barbara had a football team, they used to celebrate a homecoming week in the fall, typically late October or early November. The week was filled with assorted activities, most notably the Galloping Gaucho Revue (GGR) (a show in which a variety of students performed acts and competed for a prize), float building, and bonfire rallys. On Saturday morning, a float parade was held on State Street (and in later years in Isla Vista) where many student groups showed off their hard work and creativity. In addition to the floats, the Santa Barbara Marching Band and other community marching units partook in the parade. In the evening, the UCSB football team played a widely attended homecoming game which was followed by a dance open to students and alumni. During the dance, a Homecoming Queen would be crowned and presented a Donna Lorden Memorial Trophy.

As UC Santa Barbara graduates and friends of the university, we each have our own image of UCSB. What we studied, where we lived, when we graduated; our campus experiences shaped us all. Let us know the memories you cherish. We look forward to reading your memories.
